How do I get to Siargao Island?

How do I get from the Airport or Ferry Terminal to Bamboo Garde

Tricycle taxis are available for rent at all island arrival points. Contact us when you require a transfer with our resort car and for more information please have a look at Rooms & Rates.


Is there an ATM on Siargao Island?


There is one at the airport, one in Del Carmen, one in General Luna and a two more in Dapa, but they are very unreliable and we would recommend to bring sufficient cash with you.

I have heard that parts of The Philippines can be dangerous. Is Siargao Island safe?


Like anywhere you need to take reasonable safety precautions, but providing that you do you should encounter no issues during your stay on Siargao.


There are s0me high risk areas in The Philippines and currently Mindanao, the large island next to Siargao, does fall into this category. This is mainly restricted to the Southern and Central parts of Mindanao, so if you intend to explore these areas before or after your stay in Siargao please take extra care.

Safety in the philippines, Siargao Island

Before swimming in any rivers and lagoons in The Philippines, just check with locals first that they are safe, as The Philippines is home to several crocs.

Are there medical facilities on Siargao?


There are basic medical facilities on the island, but if you are in need of serious medical attention then you will need to get to Surigao or Cebu. You should always take out adequate travel insurance before leaving home that provides cover in case of serious medical events.



My friend doesn’t surf. Will they have anything to do?

Yes! Although the island is well known for its waves, there are definitely plenty of other activities to keep you busy unless of course you would prefer to just sit and relax in the shadow of a palm tree. Have a look at Activities to see what else you can do on Siargao.

Is it safe to swim?


There are beautiful spots to swim in the ocean around Siargao and if you take the reasonable precautions that you would anywhere you should have an enjoyable time without getting into difficulty. However, you should always be extra vigilant when there is no lifeguard present and even more so if you are not a strong swimmer.

  About Siargao


  • The island is located in the Surigao del Norte province and is around 800 Km southeast of Manila.

  • It has a land area of approximately 437km.

  • There around 200,000 residents on the Island.

  • The main religion is Roman Catholic.

  • The locals speak Surigaonon, but a lot of people on the Island also speak good English.

  • Siargao is home to the tarsier; one of the world's smallest primates. These tiny nocturnal creatures are facing extinction so you are unlikely to see them but if you are lucky enough to spot one be careful not to disturb it, as the stress of human interaction can cause the tarsier to commit suicide. Strange but true!

  • Siargao has a tropical average temperature of 30°C.  

  • The rainy season is from December to February and during this time, despite still being warm, there will be occasional heavy rain showers and strong winds.

  • The island may experience typhoons throughout the year, although most pass by relatively safely causing little or no damage. In the event of a typhoon the staff at Bamboo Garden will give you instructions on how to stay safe.
